10 key considerations for estimating scope
Choosing the perfect wall finish for your space can feel overwhelming, but we're here to make it easier. This guide is designed to streamline the process, offering practical tips and key considerations to help you navigate your options with confidence. These are some of the factors that we consider when calculating an estimate for your project. ​​
1. Size of Project
The total square footage of the walls and/or ceilings, including tall or vaulted spaces.
2. Surface Condition
Whether the existing walls are smooth, textured, painted, or require preparation before new finish can be applied. Most of our finishes require a smooth, well primed surface. Request a copy of our spec sheet for detailed application requirements.
3. Materials
Lime, clay, tadelakt, and paint-based finishes all vary in cost. Some of our finishes use accessible off-the-shelf materials, while others require materials that are highly specialized, custom, and made-to-order.
4. Finish & Texture
Smooth, polished, brushed, raked, fluted, or layered finishes affect both material use and labor time.
5. Color Options
Stock colors or custom color matching, as well as hand-mixed pigments, may increase material and sample preparation costs.
6. Architectural Details
Fireplaces, arches, soffits, niches, domes, and trim integration require more detailed craftsmanship. Doors and windows also contribute to application time.
7. Site Accessibility
Ease of access, working heights (scaffolding or other equipment), and staging areas all influence labor and setup efficiency.
8. Timeline
Rush timelines, phased installations, or coodination with other trades may affect the schedule and labor planning.
9. Location
Travel time, lodging, and mobilization fees may apply for projects outside of our immediate service area.
10. Samples & Touch-ups
Sample creation, revisions, and optional post-installation touch-up services are factored into our estimates.
